Best office apps my apologie for last week

Well as title says today I will show you top 10 office apps. It will be two PowerPoint replacement and 8 Microsoft office apps. Today you will see all kinds of app; from fully featured and almost the same as Microsofts office ones to lightweight nice looking ones so everyone can pick its own favourite and

1. Polaris office

It is an app that comes preloaded on most of android smartphones and tablets. It gathers "Notes, Exelc, Word and PwerPoint" in one app. You get every basic future from Microsoft Office so you dont have to worry but for all power users that need a lot of different photo effects or maybe animations in PowerPoint this is not the best option. Well what I really like is couple of awesome templates for "Word" but especially ones for "PowerPoint".

Download for free

2. CloudOn

This is my personal favourite because basically what it does is bring whole Microsoft Office from PC to your Android. It also saves every project to cloud so you can get where ever you are. Just how I said it brings you fully futured Microsoft office, from UI to functions. Only downside is that you have to be online to use it.

Download for free

3. Google drive

Is an app made by google that is firstly a cloud with 5GB of storage for free and option to upgrade but it also brings Word, Excel and PowerPoint with a lot nicer and simpler UI that I likes. Well what else to say if you want an awesome looking app with bunch of cloud storage and pretty basic but also nice looking UI this is must have for you.

Download for free

4. Deck slideshow

This is the most awesome PowerPoint/slides editor and maker. If anyone is familiar with Prezi ,for me the best PowerPoint competitor. Well its something like that. Lot of cool templates with awesome animations. It good if you have to make a project for school or make presentation that has to make people become interested in your topic. But there is one problem, just some of templates are unlocked whilefor the others you have to pay.

Download for free

5. IncStage presenter

This is another awesome PowerPoint/Slides maker. It is fully futured PowerPoint replacement. It offers even more than PowerPoint and it is packed in easy to use interface. It is intended to make your presentations sharable. You can share your creations to almost everything you want. You can also export your presentation like Jpeg, OWG, PPT or PDF.

Buy $6,15

6. QuickOffice

After CloudOn this is most futured office app in Play Store. As Ive said in description of CloudOn this is for every user that wants to have 3D photos, all cool animations and much more. And one thing to notice you dont have to be online to use it. But here we have one downside too; it is complicated. I used it for a week and Ive spent 45min just to find where are all futures "hidden".

Buy $19,99

Download:    paid version for free

Other office apps

These 4 apps are mostly the same as "Polaris Office" but with different UI and awesome templates. Why have I put them if they are the same as polaris office.  Well thats simple; as I mentioned they are mostly the same but not everyone likes how Polaris looks like so these apps are replacement or lets say same thing but in different package and because of that for every app I will provide a couple of screenshots so you can pick best looking one.

1. Kingston office

There is just two things to mention: It is more simple and easier to use and it has 2 or 3 widgets that will improve your productivity.

Download for free

2. ThinkFree office

Same thing with more realistic UI . It has leather background with realistic pockets to "hold" your documents.

Buy $8,17

Download:    paid version for free

3. Smart Office 2

This is more colorful and a lot funnier way of using office.

Buy $9,26
Download:    free version          paid version for free

4. OfficeSuite

This is styled office app that futures black background and minimalistic look.

Buy: $14.99

What is an App and how do I access them on my tablet

Apps or applications are programs you can add to your tablet to quickly access services - ranging from pdf and file readers to bbc iplayer or ebook apps - there is no limit to the range of apps. Some allow you to talk to friends such as Skype using the camera on your tablet or send messages to someone via wifi such as Whatsapp.

Apps are accessed via the app store on your tablet this will be an icon on your tablet - depending on the operating system (the system operating the tablet in the background) of the tablet you have determines which app store you have access to. The two main systems are ios and android - one of these is on the tablets made by the manufacturer named after a piece of fruit and he other features on a range of tablets made by a great many producers.

Ios has the app store while android uses play both of these have over 700,000 apps according to Complex Tech and as well as featuring the applications, also provide access to stores selling music, books, newspapers and magazines you can purchase or subscribe to.

It has to be said both stores feature many of the same apps, however, they also feature some specifically designed for each brand of tablet - as with all things tablet - you need to consider your priorities before you decide which will meet your needs.

In our next post we will look at processors, in simple terms the brains of a tablet, responsible for processing all the data and critical to the speed it performs at.

As ever, feel free to comment or email if you have any comments or queries.

So what is the processor thing in my tablet

Tablets, like computers, need a brain to allow them to function and do the work of processing all the information for all the apps and other functions you are using it for. Coupled with a decent amount of memory and storage, you should see little lag in the speed of your tablet even when using it for many activities.

A typical tablet processor, image credit Mactrast.com
If you are going to purchase one of the tablets made by the company named after a fruit, then you will not have a choice as to the processor as all of the tablets made by them of that type come with the same processor, the only choice is the memory level and wifi/3g/4g connectivity.

If however, you are looking at a tablet named after a robot then you will see many different types - they will be quoted in a speed and increasingly a number of cores. The more cores a processor has and the higher the speed, the faster it can process data and can keep your tablet moving at speed.

However, a down side of all this speed is that it will draw more power from your battery reducing the amount of time you have if on the move to use your tablet. As with processors, batteries have a rating mah which stands for milli amp hours, your mobile will have a battery with a similar rating. With a higher rating, you get more time and for someone on the move, you might want to get the highest possible, however, with almost all tablets the battery is built in and not accessible so you cant change it after purchase.

Im a geek just ask my wardrobe!

Recently my good friend Dr. Neil Roodyn came back from TechEd 2006 in the United States. He was performing regular duties as Mr. Keynote and yet managed to think of me. I dont know about you but theres a trend thats becoming rather alarming...T-shirts. First it was Tablet Kiosk with its apology gift and now Neil brings me a handful of new additions to my "Im a geek and not afraid to let you all know about it" wardrobe.

I love them!

32GB SSD HDD for my Slate

Scary pyjama pants I know!

Being a geek is not a choice, it’s a way of life. As I contemplate not geeking out I often find myself philosophising about my next geekish quest. Inadvertently what I create is a conundrum of “do I?” or “don’t I”?” If ask my wife she would probably have a very certain point of view. If I ask your partner we would probably get the same. The fact remains however that once you’ve been bit, you’ve been bit!

What’s my latest infection? SSD!

While I sit here waiting for my SSD HSDPA OQO I have managed to obtain a 2.5” SATA 32GB SSD Hard Drive made by Transcend. The part number is: TS32GBSSD25S. The fact that the SSD HDD is SATA, and the fact that it is 2.5” (and not the UMPC friendly 1.8”) means that I have decided to trial it in my TabletKiosk i440D Slate PC. As shown here.

I’ll keep you posted on my thoughts. As we speak I have removed the spinning HDD the Sahara came with and holding the two in hand feels remarkably different. One of them, with all its shinny bits and pieces feels solid and valuable, the other, with its plastic and veneers feels lifeless and cheap. (Truth be told the later should be far more impressive than anything I have ever explored.)
