How many billion is Facebook worth in 2012 and is it heading against Google

Facebook is now growing faster than ever as with its current funding and worth.

The social networking site had gained a new funding that is worth $500 million: Goldman Sachs gave $450 million while Russian investment firm Digital Sky Technologies have $50 million. Aside from that, it has gained more than $800 million from previous five fundings and when totalled, they have raised $1.3 billion. And now that we have seen the fundings, how much do you think it’s worth.

Well, according to The New York Times, Facebook’s value is now worth a whopping $50 billion! Whew! Way, way bigger than other Internet establishments. But it does not end there.

When Goldman Sachs sealed the deal with FB, it promised that it will help raise $1.5 billion by creating a “special purpose vehicle” that will allow other people to invest on the biggest social networking site in the Internet. When this happens, it will help Facebook bypass the SEC regulation which requires companies with more than 499 investors to reveal to the public their financial statements.

Now that we know what Facebook is worth and how much they have gained, we ask now? What will they do with that big money they have now?

Well, we all know that Google is FB’s greates rival now as well as Microsoft. One of the theories that people are thinking is that it might use $2 billion of its new funding to cash out on its investors and employees. Second is all about the growth of Facebook. Since we’re pretty sure they want to beat Google as the bigges internet company, there might be plans on getting an expansion and hiring more employees.

In terms of expansion, one trusted source tells that it plans to purchase the Sun Microsystems campus in Menlo park, California from Oracle Corporation to have more room for their future plans. When it comes to hiring, Facebook should really do this as they only have around 2000 employees, which is very small for company that serves 500 million users and is worth $50 billion. This is one thing that they need to revamp in order to beat Google. Then it will also use its other funding for new acquisitions in 2011.

We hope Facebook will also feature new products since their rivals have already done that and are ruling the web more. Expansions such as emails, ads displays, news and more are what we expect Facebook will do to expand. They should not only focus on social networking and reach out to other markets as well. This is something to look forward to.

Sony Mobile announcing the Xperia P and Xperia U at MWC mobile phone tech news updated and report

Sony gets right to it - Xperia P (rumored as Nyphon) and Xperia U (rumored as Kumquat) go official. They are the smaller versions of the Xperia S.

The Xperia P has a 4" display of qHD (540 x 960) resolution, which features the so called "White Magic" technology for superior sunlight legibility. It has an 8 MP camera with 1080p video recording and a dual-core NovaThor U8500 processor with 1 GB of RAM. Its an aluminum unibody device.

The Xperia P will come in brushed aluminum finishes in three versions. It also has NFC connectivity compatible with the Xperia smart tags.

The Sony Xperia U has a 3.5" 480 x 854 Reality display, Sonys xLOUD technology, a 5 MP camera with 720p video recording, dual-core 1 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM.

Xperia S And Xperia Ion To Be Unveiled By Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson has been long rumored to strategy the put out new devices in this week’s time at the Customer Gadgets Reveals 2012 in Las Nevada, and still, a lot more information on them has just began to appear.

Cloud Computing and Tablet PCs

The other day I wrote about battery life and why it is such a vital component in the development of mobile devices. Without an efficient battery and a CPU designed to use less of its power, a mobile device isn’t very mobile. Because I’ve been discussing hardware and innovations in the manufacturer space, I wanted to move to the other side of the spectrum and how software is helping to advance mobility – specifically through cloud based programs.

If you spend any amount of time using a tablet PC, smart phone, or netbook, you likely use a cloud based service. These services include tools like Dropbox and Evernote which store your files and notes on a non-local server so you can access them from any device. But, file storage is only a small part of cloud computing. The real exciting part of cloud computing is the advancement of web-based apps – programs that can quite literally take the place of OEM software, often for free.

Google’s confluence of web apps has been quite popular for some time now, and Windows has followed up with their own app-based service on http://docs.com. Not only can you create free Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents using docs.com, you can directly integrate the new Microsoft service with Facebook, allowing you to generate a friend chart, resume, or slideshow with the data provided by your Facebook account.

Create something useful and you can even share it with other users through the Docs Gallery. The basic idea behind cloud computing is fairly simple, but it’s the application that gets me truly excited – the fact that so many more things are possible when millions of people have access to those documents at any point in time.

Creativity is fantastic, but manufacturers, businesses, and consumers alike are attracted to cloud computing for one reason above all else – it allows expansion of what those devices are capable of. Right now, processor power in tablet PCs and other mobile devices is still less than ideal. Devices capable of the battery life we seek are forced to sacrifice multi-tasking and advanced feature sets to get it, while other devices are left with weaker batteries due to tech provided. Cloud computing allows devices to access more resources without expansion of local storage or processing power.

And then there is the issue of security. Right now, security on mobile devices is one of the primary concerns of enterprise users. If you lose your tablet PC and it has confidential figures for your next sales presentation on it, what can you do? Someone has instant access to data they should never see. However, by storing those figures in the cloud and accessing them only when necessary through a secure connection, they are never at risk.

The Tablet can essentially contain no vital files and be protected at all times. Of course, implementation is important here. Corporations cannot simply open a giant Dropbox account and store all their important files there. Careful creation and moderation of a cloud system is required – it’s one of the major points of focus in enterprise development for tablet PCs at the moment, and one of the major issues with the iPad – its minimal support for those expanded platforms.

As mobile computing becomes an increasingly important part of the business landscape, so too will the cloud. Whether you prefer local apps or enjoy the web-based programs being developed by Google and Microsoft, I can practically guarantee that at least part of your daily work will be done in or with the use of the cloud in the years to come.

Keyboard and Mouse sharing for UMPC

Recently I posted my first edition of “What’s in my gadget bag?” This was a very popular post that did the rounds amongst all the local legends including Sumo Cat and GottaBeMobile. The reason I posted the video was that I was going on my first trip to China, an event hosted by Microsoft regarding Vista Labs. This time I probably won’t do a new “What’s in my gadget bag?” because not much has changed. What has been added, however, is a new gadget!

Most of you may know of, or may even be using, The Synergy Project. The Synergy Project is a nice bit of software developed to share one keyboard and mouse over remote access. This access may come in the form of Ethernet of wireless and give the user the ability to copy/paste while sharing one keyboard and mouse between two, three or even four or more PCs. SO when you think of Synergy Project it is not hard to think of Ultra-Mobile PC. Until now that is.

One thing about Synergy Project that always bugged me was the lag, drag, and delay associated with the remote connection. Obviously when moving one mouse from left to right and back again it is software like the Synergy Project that sometimes experiences intermittent laziness. Admittedly I was a big fan and have been promoting it often. Until now that is.

My new favorite friend is my Clixon VCC-300. It is a hardware based keyboard and mouse share and best of all it is clipboard share, Internet share and all bundled in a USB to USB dongle. So when you ask what else is in my gadget bag, you know what I will answer, my Clixon VCC-300. I know they will be available in Australia soon via Tegatech Australia but I do not know who else or where else you can get them. Here is a link to the Clixon Website. What is an App and how do I access them on my tablet

Apps or applications are programs you can add to your tablet to quickly access services - ranging from pdf and file readers to bbc iplayer or ebook apps - there is no limit to the range of apps. Some allow you to talk to friends such as Skype using the camera on your tablet or send messages to someone via wifi such as Whatsapp.

Apps are accessed via the app store on your tablet this will be an icon on your tablet - depending on the operating system (the system operating the tablet in the background) of the tablet you have determines which app store you have access to. The two main systems are ios and android - one of these is on the tablets made by the manufacturer named after a piece of fruit and he other features on a range of tablets made by a great many producers.

Ios has the app store while android uses play both of these have over 700,000 apps according to Complex Tech and as well as featuring the applications, also provide access to stores selling music, books, newspapers and magazines you can purchase or subscribe to.

It has to be said both stores feature many of the same apps, however, they also feature some specifically designed for each brand of tablet - as with all things tablet - you need to consider your priorities before you decide which will meet your needs.

Before time got away from me I wanted to post a first-look at the Audi Keyboard solution I recently spearheaded for the Melbourne Motorshow (02 March to 12 March 2007). The basic concept involves a Samsung Q1 UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) as a device used to capture details of visitors to the Audi stand.

A custom made software keyboard was developed in Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and designed using Expression Blend. Its purpose was to allow stand attendants to enter information in a natural way (with a QWERTY keyboard) and with the added benefit of custom functions like a key for ".com.au", and Audi branding. Tegatech Australia (the Tablet guys), Dr Neil Roodyn and UK interaction design firm Tricky Business collaborated on the project to bring it to fruition.

This is a great example of how XAML provides the glue to allow developers and designers to work together - exactly why Microsoft came up with it in the first place.
